Unread Icon Badges

If you have a device that is running Android 4.3 or higher, you may have noticed that Themer version 1.64 has implemented support for unread notification icon badges. What you may not have realized is that Themer now supports a wider range of email, SMS, and chat clients. As long as you have an Android device running 4.3 or higher, your unread notifications are no longer bound to Gmail and your built-in SMS app.

How to Turn On Icon Badges
When you first install Themer, your Gmail and your built-in SMS app will display unread count badges. These are on by default, but if you are on Android 4.4+ you still need to approve the permission to allow Themer to detect your unread notifications. To do this, just tap on any Themer Action on your theme. You can also access the Themer Settings menu and tap on the option marked "Email and SMS" or "Icon Badges." This will pop up a dialogue informing you of the permission. Tap "OK," and approve themer.

Now Themer is ready to detect a greater variety of email and SMS apps, including but not limited to: Yahoo! Mail, Outlook.com, CloudMagic, K-9, Hangouts, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, and more!

In order to keep your homescreen looking clean, these apps do not display badges by default. You will need to turn them on. To do this, tap on the Themer Settings > Icon Badges menu, and select the option marked "Select apps to enable badges." This will produce a list of all the apps on your device. Just check the ones that you want to display notification badges.

How Do I Set Up My Email and SMS?
Now that you are no longer restricted to use only Gmail and the built-in SMS, you will need to set up your preferred Email and SMS apps. To do this, tap on the Themer Settings > Email and SMS menu.

You will also notice that you have the options GMAIL UNREAD COUNT and HANGOUT UNREAD COUNT. With the Gmail and the Hangouts apps specifically, you have the option to display either "Only New Emails" or "Total Unread Emails" (or SMS). The "Only New Emails" option will only display new, unchecked emails. The "Total Unread Emails" will display your entire email account's unread messages. Which ever one you choose is up to you!

Can I Change How It Looks?
You can easily change the coloring, position, and shape of your new unread icon badges. If you go to the Advanced Settings > Icon Badge menu, you can customize your icon badges any way that you'd like.

Of course, if you ever need personal help with any of this, just send a quick email to support@themerapp.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
